Youth is a state of mind as well as body, stay young with Vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 plays a key role in the brain and nervous system functioning and also in blood cell and DNA formation. It is essential in releasing energy from the food we eat and sufficient levels of Vitamin B12 in your diet are vital to a happy and healthy life.
Vitamin B12 is not readily stored in our bodies as it is a water soluble vitamin and our bodies produce less of the proteins and enzymes needed to absorb it as we age.
Along with folic acid, Vitamin B12 is important in the production of serotonin and other neurotransmitters in the brain. Low levels of these vital “happy” chemicals can lead to mood swings, depression and psychiatric problems.
B12 is also important in the production of Melatonin which is an essential hormone that regulates many other hormones and controls our sleep and waking patterns.

Vegan Vitamin B12 Foods
Vitamin B12 is mainly found in animal products such as meat, milk and eggs however, it is also in some algae’s such as seaweed and is often added to fortified plant foods.
Vegans should be aware of where their vitamin B12 intake is coming from. Many modern breakfast cereals, soya products, yeast extracts and veggie burgers are fortified with Vitamin B12. And Nutritional Yeast and Marmite are both addictively good sources of B12.
Vitamin B12, also know as Coblamin, is sourced from one of two main sources:
- Methylcoblamin is the natural source
- Cyanocoblamin is the synthetic source
Studies are limited but it appears that the synthetic Cyanocoblamin is more readily absorbed by the body BUT is not readily retained… being instead lost through urine in high quantities. Therefore it is best to ensure your B12 is from a NATURAL methylcoblamin source.
In most cases, we believe it is best to obtain Vitamins and Minerals from the food you eat. However, Vitamin B12 is one of the supplements we do take, ensuring it is a Natural, Vegan methylcoblamin source using VEGAN capsules and FREE from bulking agents.
